What can I learn?
What would you like to learn? It would be my pleasure to help you pursue the things that interest you.
Would you like to play...
For your own pleasure?
For a relative or friend?
To accompany choirs?
To serve on a worship team?
To complete examinations?
To apply for post-secondary music programs?
To participate in competitions and develop a skill set?
The pure act of playing the piano may bring you great pleasure, and with the broad musical education I have received, I believe I can help you with most of your piano interests.
The piano is an instrument with a long and important history. Playing pieces from different time periods increases your versatility as a pianist and deepens your understanding of the instrument and of music. Ideal piano study would include a well-rounded repertoire of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th-21st Century, and Popular pieces as well as technical exercises that facilitate the skills needed. The most clear provision of this is in the curriculum of the RCM:
The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) is one of the largest and
most respected music education institutions in the world,
providing the definitive standard of excellence in curriculum
design, assessment, performance training, teacher certification,
and arts-based social programs.
Having received my ARCT in Piano Performance from the RCM, I am qualified to put students through practical and theory examinations from preliminary to the final (tenth) grade.
However, there is no harm in learning your favourite pop pieces of today or songs that have stuck with you through the years! I would love to help you learn such pieces!
Please let me know what you would like the purpose of our lessons to be, and we can continue to collaborate on the direction as the lessons progress.
It is my aspiration to have my students come to love playing the piano and creating music in continually deeper ways while having FUN!
